So, the one remaining hurdle is actually depositing the dissertation, after said minor revisions. I met with my advisor today to discuss what he wanted those revisions to be.

His argument, it turns out, is that this is a dissertation that people will want to read - as a dissertation. They will download it, or ask for it when I look for jobs and things, if it isn't published by then, and so forth, and therefore, it needs to be in as good shape and as polished as possible.

So I'm not depositing it on Friday. Instead, I'll spend much of the next two weeks trying to incorporate as many of the committee's non-enormous comments as possible - "adjusting," as my advisor puts it, rather than adding or subtracting substantial amounts.

Not that I'm spending the next two weeks moving into a new apartment in a new city, getting and crate-training a puppy, revising an article, or prepping for 2 classes or nothing.

Sigh. Just back from vacation, and the next month's going to cause me to need another one...

In more positive news, the one good thing about moving post-wedding is that many of the things you go through have positive associations.

Random happy and sad mementoes of the last few days:

1. My prom corsage- finally disintegrated and into the trash. Ah well.
2. The speeches from my Grandpa Robbins' memorial service. I had forgotten the anecdote about how he was in the Congo and predicted its revolution the _first_ time it revolted.
3. [livejournal.com profile] foldedfish's fish glasses. Still way cool, soon more useful with Dishwasher!
4. [livejournal.com profile] outlawradio's matching blue towel set. Soon, we will have bathroom fixtures to match it!
5. A random photo of [livejournal.com profile] havenstone looking like James Dean and totally looking like he's chatting up [livejournal.com profile] julianyap. Some people are just too photogenic.
6. A cool Christmas ornament from [livejournal.com profile] contrariety.
7. A gorgeous letter from Japan from [livejournal.com profile] retsuko, and the Hello Kitty in formal wedding kimono she sent me.
8. Jewelry from [livejournal.com profile] oelker, tucked away in my "travel jewelry" box at the bottom of a drawer.
9. Our fish magnet from St. Croix.
10. The Half-Pint of Pepsi from GenCon, and many assorted happy memories therein involving whole bunches of folks.

We may be moving, but everywhere we look in our apartment we have reminders of how much our friends care about us. It's a good feeling.
