The point when you wonder why we are listening to _any_ of these people:
Tom Brokaw: "Should there be, in your judgment, some kind of a compromise so people who believe in the Ten Commandments, or people of the Jewish faith who want to put something out there that reflects their faith, or the Islamic faith, on public property have the right to do that?"
Gee, I wonder what Jewish people think is a reflection of their faith, cuz apparently, it isn't the Ten Commandments.
Dennis Kucinich, I think: "We have to heal this country about the Civil War... we have to heal this country about the dispossession of lands by Native Americans."
Um...while I know my friend
myrt_maat knows more about this than I do, my impression of U.S. history was not that it featured the Cherokee and Iroquois taking thousands of acres away from poor immigrant farmers. Not to mention, as
adamhmorse would say - the right side won in the Civil War, darnit, and the South lost because their position was morally indefensible and economically stupid.
More Kucinich:
KUCINICH: Well, that presumes that people of this country do not have a social consciousness. I believe they do. That's why we've lost hundreds of textile plants in this country. That's why our steel, automotive, aerospace, shipping and textile industries are in such severe trouble.
