Today, both A. and I did unexpected things. He went and gave blood, and I was at a meeting where I drank a full wineglass worth of single malt whisky on a largely empty stomach. As a result, we both arrived home at 7:30 dizzy, hungry, and not completely ourselves. After some discussion, I cooked dinner, and then we sat around and complained about the new Kay novel, Last Light of the Sun, which as predicted he disliked even more than I did. A's got very little romance to him, and this particular novel goes for romantic descriptivism at the expense of interesting characters, plot, or suspense. I'm not sure if descriptivism is a word, but in my current mood, I don't really care.
On the positive side, my second advisor also really liked my review, and didn't think it was too nasty. For those of you curious to read it, it is here. Your comments are appreciated.
I've also been offered the intriguing temptation of teaching a course on Classical Myth in Film, up at City College, in the fall. I really really need to look into cloning technology. Ooh, and I just remembered the conflict I had for the second weekend in September. Hmm...will need to mention that to my advisor.
I ran Alea Iacta this weekend, which went great, but then ran a 3-hour seminar on Monday and discovered again that my voice does not like it when I ask it to talk that much for 3 consecutive days. I must stop talking so can be intriguing and eloquent during the Michigan conference this weekend.
