So, today I have been sitting around and doing small vaguely pointful tasks, like sorting jewelry that needs repair, while waiting for the mail to come with my Compaq Emergency Recovery CDs, being sent by 1st class mail, which will hopefully solve at least some of my dire computer problems. Except, I just went down and got the mail, and guess what's not in it? That's right. Another day of waiting. I do not like this much of an opportunity to practice the virtue of patience...

In positive, sort of, news, one thing I did get in the mail was a postcard from my Dad, who seems more likely to accept the Chair of Political Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Which would be weird, but kinda cool. I have no idea how this solves the geographical difficulties with regard to his wife.

Also, um...had a lovely picnic with K.R. in Central Park over the weekend, and then a nice dinner at the Afghan Kebab House with havenstone and his new s.o., who is very cool. And after fajitas' success, who am I to panic about a relationship conducted somewhere between D.C., Afghanistan, London, and Tanzania?

But in general...I really wish right now that I could go into the wild somewhere, and skip stones on a river, or maybe just throw stones at the river and see how big a splash they made.

Maybe I will paint another miniature. I painted Meloch the Pygmy yesterday, and it did calm me down - lots of fun trying to get the exact right skin tone for a North African pygmy Roman slave. (Unsurprisingly, "Bronzed Flesh" paint is for northern European-style warriors.) Also, there's a big new post for Alea on my Story Hour.

And today I get to discuss the dynamics of dildo-trading in 1st century B.C. Alexandria with my students. That should be fun.
