No, seriously, it apparently turns out that there was a race of "hobbits" or 3-feet-sized small people 18,000 years ago on the small island of Flores. They lived in caves and hunted dwarf elephants and Komodo dragons and used stone tools. They must have co-existed with the Homo Erectus population that traveled later to the island, although no contact has been proven. And they had a very small brain capacity.

Please, somebody, this is a novel waiting to be written. Except it has been. But dwarf elephants, man! You can't make this stuff up!
