Hey [livejournal.com profile] foldedfish and [livejournal.com profile] oelker, the dihydrogen monoxide story has hit the NYTimes. Also, depressingly enough, 1/3rd of Americans believe that eating genetically modified food changes your own genes. It's interesting - this is a case where I know I'm in disagreement with a number of folks whose opinions I respect and value. I'm definitely aware and worried about the dangers of pesticides, mercury, and things like mad cow disease on foods, and alter my food purchases accordingly to some extent, but genetic modification just seems like a more sophisticated form of the same kind of plant breeding we've been doing for millennia. Anybody have a good argument for me as to why this is actually something different and scary?
