Bads: My advisor decided that my dissertation will be much better off if I defend it in the summer or fall, which in turn means that I won't be getting my Ph.D. until October or so. This is frustrating, but the good, or at least productive part of it, is that his reasons were basically sound and weren't about disliking feminist theory. My major problem is that I don't state or prove my arguments well enough in the first five or six pages of a chapter, basically, and as he (and probably lots of other people) don't read _past_ that first five or six pages...I lose them.

Goods: So, this matters relatively little with regard to my job search - I'll probably see if I can wrangle something at Columbia now, and hope for the best there.  Most of the remaining job apps don't require a Ph.D., and I'll look out for other ones that don't. We'll likely be in NYC for the next year unless something wonderful and crazy happens.

The real good is that I decided last week that, if this happened, I was going to deal with it and the immense stress I've been under by running off to the Caribbean for spring break with A.next week. So that's now a go, and we welcome any suggestions or advice, as we've never been there.

Plus, I can only think it a positive reaction that I came home and made Crab Cakes and Spinach Benedict.

Weirds: The Weather. WTF? 60 degrees and t-shirt to ruttin' blizzard and 0 degree wind chill in 24 hours???
