I've accepted the job at Northwestern, having negotiated it down to 2-2-2, with a course schedule of
Fall: Intro Latin and Gender and Sexuality in Antiquity
Winter: Intro Latin and a Roman Lit in Translation course of my choice.
Spring: Intro Latin and Classics and Film.

Hello Chicago, here we come.

1. I have a job.

2. Free Ice Cream Cone day at Ben & Jerry's. I love Free Cone Day not so much for the ice cream (tho that's cool) but because it's one of the best demonstrations of the democratization of New York City. You see everyone in line on Free Cone Day - rich white i-bankers, little kids from Harlem, ladies in designer clothes, old men and women - everybody comes out for free ice cream.

3. One of my students brought me, as a present, Denzel Washington's signed autograph on a playbill of Julius Caesar that she watched for extra credit in my section.

4. It's the beginning of the Floralia - the Roman celebration of prostitutes. And while I won't be defending my dissertation this week, it'll be all the better for the extra work time, and when I successfully defend, we will get a puppy! (The leading candidates for names are Athena and Democrat - cuz it'll probably be a golden retriever. Get it?)
