Eowyn passed her final exam in puppy training class last night, despite having spent the last week in a kennel and missing the previous two classes due to pneumonia. Apparently, she takes after her dad, who also doesn't bother actually studying or practicing for exams very often.
She had to navigate a track lined with tempting toys and treats, obeying "Leave it" and "Sit" and "Come" on cue. She balked for a bit at being asked to Sit and Stay in between 2 bowls full of dog biscuits, without going for either of them, but eventually quieted down. That said, I don't really recommend the PetSmart dog training classes - very repetitive.
Bads of Thanksgiving weekend:
My dad's asthma
"Nobody here actually believes that Christ was raised from the dead, right?" --my hostess, my sister-in-law's mother, to a Tgiving assemblage of 21 people.
Stupid California rental car insurance policies.
Goods:
My brother is an awesome 1st grade teacher who's been given special ed students despite no actual training because he works so well with all kids. Also, his obsession with golf is much healthier than earlier, more illegal hobbies.
Really, really yummy stuffing and turkey.
A Roman dinner, cooked by my sister-in-law, on Sunday night, that was delicious, and getting to know her friend Eugene Volokh better.
A. coming to clearer realizations about career paths.
Actually having a full playtest of an Aalterdam Round 2!
The La Jolla seals.
And in the Bad And Really Random, a Horrible No-Good Nightmare last night that it was the Apocalypse, and I had been wrong about God's lovingkindness all along, and my brother was going to Heaven because of being a good elementary school teacher, but I probably wasn't, and Hell looked like the ulcers on last night's House, and it just got worse from there.
