when the reward you promise yourself as a motivation technique is getting to go to the bathroom.
Seriously. And that was _before_ the dog decided to join the baby in being sick, and when I couldn't run her out in time - because I was home alone, and the baby had just wretchedly gone to sleep - she made both brown and bright green messes on the apartment carpet. Luckily, by the time she did it again, I had corralled her in the kitchen on the linoleum, so it was just a big mess, not a big staining mess. (So far, I have tried vinegar-and-water and enzymatic cleaner; we'll see if anything works.)
Before that, I had a headache, the baby had the 20% fever-and-rash reaction to his measles-mumps-rubella-chickenpox shot, I failed to find any place within a 5-block radius that would copy keys or give me service in finding a pair of baby shoes, and the pharmacy didn't have my prescription in stock (except it did, just didn't realize it until 6:30, when they called in the middle of the dog's digestive issues), and A.'s in the middle of a massive work crunch. So there were a lot of demands on my attention, and not so much of the spare time to perform semi-optional biological functions.
Other random notes:
I'm watching _Die Another Day_ right now on TV, because wow do I need mindless brain candy. It's striking that in a 2002 movie, the big awful thing that the film shows the North Korean torturers doing to Bond is waterboarding. Oh, for America's innocence, and the days when the North Koreans were the torturers. Maybe the next movie should be about taking down an American group of supervillains.
The Army recruitment ads have stopped the whole "see the world; gain useful random skills" campaign in favor of "Become a strong leader." I guess they aren't fooling anyone any longer that they aren't going to Iraq.
It looks like my paper on _Sandman_ may wind up getting published in a major university press book! I really need some peer-reviewed articles, but this is still very cool. If any folks are interested, there's a general call for papers for the book out. Amusingly, the requirements are listed as being very familiar with "Latin, Greek, and the pre-Crisis history of the Justice League." I actually don't know the latter. I'm not enough of a geek, for once...Anyone care to give me a brief summary?
