Can anyone explain to me why it is important for bibliographical entries to list the city of the press involved? I waste so much time by typing "Cambridge" or "Ann Arbor," particularly in cases where it's obvious, like Oxford: Oxford University Press.

Bad: I hate the first week of fall Daylight Savings Time. Yes, it's been getting darker and colder for a while now, but all of a sudden, it's Dark and Gloomy at 4:30 PM. Now that I remember, I always get cranky and sulky and unproductive this week. I hate having to turn on all the lights in mid-afternoon. Maybe I should buy a Happy Lamp. Mac's Midnight Screams of Incipient Molardom don't help.

Good: I played Baby Guitar this afternoon to "Smells like Nirvana" by Weird Al. What is Baby Guitar, you ask? Well, you take a baby who really enjoys being held upside down and grab one arm around his legs, splaying him out to the side of you so his head is about at your right thigh. Then, as if you were playing air guitar, you strum/tickle his belly in time with the music. We're working at getting squeals consistently on beat still, but it's clearly a lot of fun for all involved.

Provoke the nerds: "#2 showed a remarkably precise understanding of the internet. The question at hand was how to find good restaurants, and Bourdain's answer was to take the city you want to go to and just google up some restaurant names that serve the dish you're after. Then got to chowhound or another foodie site, and rather than asking about restaurants, you put up an enthusiastic post talking about how you just had the best whatever you're looking for at one of these restaurants.

At that point, what [livejournal.com profile] drivingblind likes to call the nerdfury will begin. Posters will show up from nowhere to shower you with disdain, tell you how that place used to be good but has now totally sold out and - most important to your quest - will tell you where you would have gone if you were not some sort of mouth breathing water buffalo."

This is brilliant. I think [livejournal.com profile] r_ness should try it. :)
