Contradicting a smaller LA Times poll, the respected Field Poll reports that 54% would vote against an amendment preventing marriage equality and 40% would vote in favor.

Maybe my vote's not going to be wasted in November after all this year...

I present two examples.

From the Denver Democratic Convention instructions to potential caterers: "Caterers must provide foods in "at least three of the following five colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white."
It's a good thing julianyap isn't running things this year, I guess, or he'd really be in trouble, since he doesn't believe in blue _or_ green foods. :)

From an article about the greeening of Oberlin dorms and houses:: "At Oberlin last year, some students in the winning dorm did not shower for two weeks."

Look, I want to reduce my carbon footprint as much as the next woman, but I also believe in not stinking, and I rather like mashed potatoes...

So, I'm revising the final draft of my Gaiman paper for publication. I assert at one point that British readers would be reasonably familiar with the life and deeds of the Emperor Augustus, but that American readers would be less so.

Now, you're a rather overeducated group, but maybe not as typical American readers of the _Sandman_ go.

So here's the question (to be answered in comments): What do you know, briefly about the Emperor Octavian Augustus, both in terms of public deeds and, if anything, his personal life? Can you name 3 things, say? And what's the source of that knowledge - tv? comics? movie? classes? books?

This is a well-done and amusing video dispelling the most common smears about Barack Obama. If you know someone who has doubts about Obama's religion/friends/patriotism, it might be worth passing on.
