Goods, Bads, and Weirds of Christmas 2003 - so far...

We're really having a 12 Days of Holidays event this year - starting with my birthday, spending Christmas in San Diego, two days skiing with my father and brother in the San Bernadino Mountains for my brother's birthday, and then going to visit my husband's family for New Year's and more presents.

Christmas Update:
Goods:
Much less family stress than expected. Two years running of not crying myself to sleep on Christmas Eve is pretty good - it really helps to have someone else to hold you.

Lots of neat presents, including the Indy Trilogy, Eragon (review to follow), a breadbox, finally, that says BREAD on it, a gorgeous microfiber navy bathrobe from my husband, cool jewelry from my female friends (who are pretty much the only folks who give me jewelry these days, and it rocks), more chocolate than my increasingly plump tummy knows what to do with, ROTK and Last Samurai soundtracks, and, in the Best Present that Keeps on Going, a set of paints and brushes for painting miniatures from my husband.

Skiing - I may still be a lot worse than my dad or brother, who both spent whole years skiing in the Swiss Alps while growing up, but I'm getting a lot better, and having tons of fun.
Some nice serious conversations with my brother.

[livejournal.com profile] julianyap saying that we had gotten him his favorite present of the year.

BADS:

Being allergic to _both_ of our families' homes these days, thanks to the gorgeous but furry Norwegian forest cats of my dad's wife.

The fact that my family seems to have decided that my color is light moss green with a bit of brown in it, and I now have multiple sweaters, plates, and dishtowels in the shade. I'm a jewel tone chick, darn it, not that I'm not grateful for the new clothes.

Apres-ski muscle soreness.

WEIRDS:
My stepmother's cats are only 8 months old and are _enormous._ Apparently, they're the origin of the Maine coon cat breed and will grow for another 4 years and weigh up to 10 kg.

Family Christmas dynamics are very strange when half the people there didn't grow up as part of the same family (my husband, my dad's wife, and my sister-in-law.) It makes it hard to emphasize traditions, but we still managed.

The pride and joy of my baking ability is my apple pie, passed down through generations from a small Russian village. Of course, I _would_ marry one of the few men in the world who doesn't like apple pie.
