How ought I to translate a Biblical passage that uses the Hebrew YHWH? I don't have any strong feelings about religious propriety or impropriety here myself. OTOH, I don't think that the particular term is essential to the passage (It's Hosea 2: "Go, take to yourself a woman of promiscuity and children of promiscuity, because the land is utterly promiscuous, forsaking YHWH.") My literal translation voice says "translate it as YHWH; it's important that a particular term is used." The other part of me says, "Why not just say Lord/God?" Thoughts?
