orichalcum at 02:18pm on 13/03/2008 under book movieWB has decided to split the final book into two movies, Deathly Hallows Part I and Deathly Hallows Part II, because "otherwise you'd have to cut out a huge section of the book."
Sigh. Honestly, I was rather hoping that the screenwriters _would_ cut out a large section of the book - you know, that part where _nothing interesting is happening_? But I guess every last chase sequence needed to stay in.
It's a pity, because I think there's a good story in Book 7 that just needs a lot of editing.
First, put getting the locket into HBP, where it belongs anyway.
1. The Multiple Harry Broom Chase.
2. The Wedding.
3. Argument in the Forest -Rons stalks off.
4. Godric's Hollow snakey-scene.
5. Cut-scene - hear the radio narrating, and _see_ what Neville & Ginny & F&G and so on are doing.
6. Ron returns heroically, gets sword.
7. Stupid goblin Indiana Jones escape chase scene which will be very cinematic.
8. Attack on Hogwarts, Part I. We get to see all the important deaths and people being heroic.
9. Follow Snape. Encounter Pettigrew then, Pettigrew dies. Snape dies but _tells_ - with flashback over voiceover Harry about Lily.
10. Harry goes on Suicidal Mission because Dumbledore is Evil.
11. very Stone-Tabley confrontation with Vmort, Kings' Cross scene - brief as possible.
12. Attack on Hogwarts, Part II. The End. No Stupid Epilogue.
It's a 3 hour+ movie, easily, but I think it would work. What do fellow writers (esp. screenwriters) think?
