So, one of my projects today, cuz it's important, is looking at Evanston real estate. Now, this isn't going to be hugely cheap. But all the same, it's hard not to whimper in relieved shock when, _for the same price_ as our current noisy, bugs-in-the-walls, dilapidated small 1-bedroom in NYC, I see an ad like this:

EVANSTON Coach House. 3BR, 1BA, DR, LR, hrdwd flrs, remod. & sunny. On 1 acre estate. Incl prkng/lndry. $1650.+utils. 847-475-7973

The amusing thing about Evanston real estate is that many of the single-family homes are former coach houses or servant quarters for the gorgeous turn-of-the-century summer mansions by the lake. So they're nice but small buildings next to these lofty castle-like structures. If only we had 10 million dollars to spare...

From the Washington Post

"Conservative Christian leaders and STDs are in many ways a natural match."

From an article on Senator Dr. Coburn, the man who stomped out the rampant lesbianism in Oklahoma elementary school bathrooms. (How one even _has_ rampant lesbianism is another question, I pedantically muse.)

In other news, A. and I had an awesome weekend down in Durham, visiting [livejournal.com profile] ebs98, [livejournal.com profile] jab2, and [livejournal.com profile] julianyap. It's nice to realize that even though we've all changed and grown, we still share the same things that made us friends in the first place. It was a scary group to play boardgame and discuss books with, though - in two years, there will be six doctorates among the five of us! Of course, that's partially EBS's fault, but what can you do? We could lock her to a lounge chair for a few years and force her to let the rest of us catch up, but she looks so cute in scrubs!

Also, the Duke Gardens are as gorgeous as I remembered from my childhood, and grilling corn is yummy, but better when you start before 9 PM. Apparently, other folks are not generally familiar with the geography of Archenland - who knew?

And mmm....biscuits. Really, really good biscuits from Foster's. Someday, I may have to go a year without biscuits again, but until then, I'm saving up for the future. Thank goodness biscuits aren't one of those Suddenly Massively Carcinogenic or Mutagenic Foods. Don't even talk to me about carbs,
