Some people like to celebrate workers and socialism today. . I like to celebrate the last day of the ancient Roman festival of the Floralia, in which prostitutes held a parade and performed nude in raunchy plays, and the festival of Bona Dea, goddess of fertility was held, and many women got very drunk on "milk." Maypoles may be descended from the traditions of the Floralia. No, I won't actually be prancing around wearing only flowers, cuz I have to teach today, and wow, inappropriate much, but it's certainly a gorgeous enough day to think of doing so.
