While I agree that the art thing was cool, I also agree with the people who are bothered by it. A short list of objections would include the constantly tilted heads, the uniform facial expressions, the standard face shape, and the fixed skin tone.

Oh yes. Had I not been trying at the time to prevent your nephew from eating dog food, I would have clarified the "cool" as meaning - "interesting and well done, but also disturbing and provocative." While the video artist clearly picked and chose his portraits carefully, I don't think they're especially unrepresentative of Western art, unfortunately. It would have been nice to have some of Gauguin's Tahitians (not that there isn't massive colonialism there) or Picasso's less attractive models, at least, not to mention some of Rubens and Fragonard's more voluptuous women.
