"STRONG DOWNBURSTS TO 70 MPH ARE POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. LARGE DAMAGING HAIL ARE ALSO PROBABLE. IF NOT THREATENING ENOUGH...A FEW TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA SHOULD BEGIN PREPARING NOW FOR THIS SIGNIFICANT BOUT OF SEVERE WEATHER. GATHER VALUABLES AND YOUR WEATHER RADIO AND KEEP TUNED TO TV AND RADIO TO KEEP ABREAST OF THIS DEVELOPING SEVERE STORM THREAT."

Are you scared yet? Really? Because if you aren't, we can toss in a couple of tornadoes if it will help.

Wow. I think you should play "Night on Bald Mountain" and stockpile candles and bottled water.

I second this. There's at least one room in the apartment that doesn't have any windows, right? Right?

That's what I figured, and that's good enough. Though jeez, I would not live in a tall building like yours in tornado country.

Mind you, I'm certifiably paranoid about tornados, and have been since I was 7, so DO NOT listen to me. Still, the idea of not being able to get to a basement promptly wigs me the hell out.

Eh, when it got really windy downtown in late August, I was in the office. The building swayed a little and made some fascinating noises, but it's more or less supposed to do that. No harm done. I don't remember if there was technically a tornado that day, but still. :)
