Mac's new words of the last 24 hours:
Park
Free (in the context of the dog command)
Key
Pate
He almost got "mozzarella" but it's pretty indistinguishable as "ma-bah-buh-lelluh."
He hates matzoh - actively pushes it away and tries to convince _me_ not to eat it.
Also, his logical powers are impressive. He opened the window in the living room today (yes, he can open the (screened, angled) windows now, and we have the choice between spending the next two weeks with no a/c (because the building hasn't turned it on again) and all our windows duct taped or just watching him like a hawk). I guided him away and then praised him effusively for closing the window. He opened it again and pointed out, and I closed it, explaining that he couldn't go outside through the window because it wasn't safe for him. He stopped, smiled, grabbed my hand, and explained (through babble and gestures) that "we go," that to make it safe, I should go through with him. Because, of course, the normal rule is that he's allowed to be in not-safe places when he's with an adult.
I haven't figured out how to explain that, no matter how cool Mommy or Daddy is, they can't survive a 36-floor drop.

The end of innocence, really.

It must be terrifying now that Mac has actually learned to open the windows, but I have to say the image of him trying to get you to protect him from the risk of stepping out one of your windows is rather charming. At least he trusts you? OTOH, I don't think an adult would fit through one of those windows anyway, so even if you do find your inner Petrelli, Mac's stuck.
