I'm trying to figure out what the best way to research this question is. One would be delving into UK government reports on food exports that probably won't be issued for two years; you may be able to get past years, though, if they break down the type of food exported. Another would be to research what the major pre-prepared indian food exporters are in the UK, then call them to try and sweet-talk an estimate out of them -- or try to extrapolate from info in their annual report, if they're publicly traded.
Yeah. Sadly, it's not worth that much research. Apparently, this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0195172418/sr=8-1/qid=1155869703/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3339864-3890551?ie=UTF8/marginalrevol-20) might actually provide the answers, and tells me that Britons consume 18 tons per week, but as a means of making a point in a class about the cross-cultural effects of imperialism, there's a limit to how much work I will do. Thanks for the suggestions, though; you're right that those would be the right ways to go about it, if I ever need a good citable source.
