From a Department of Interior employee writing to Talking Points Memo:

Just wanted to let you guys know that there was an all-hands meeting with the new Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, at 11am today.

The bullet points are:

- Ethical misconduct and criminal acts by Bush political appointees spoiled image of department.
- We want to be held to the highest standards of ethics and accountability.
- We will respect the scientific process.
- There is the possibility that we will form a basketball team and take on the White House. Though Sec. Salazar noted that he has to be careful, as he "serves at the pleasure of the president."

Awesome. Like they said on the Daily Show, this administration has finally broken down the barrier that kept cool people from the White House.

My father used to work in the US Department of the Interior, right on the near side of the line between the Civil Servants and the Political Appointees. I'll have to ask him about his opinion re. Salazar.

White House is going to kick Interior's collective butts.

I feel like I've wandered into some fictional future universe where I actually agree with the direction the government is heading more than once a year. It's unsettling.
