A New Zealand kind of day?

Not quite raising to the level of Australia. But so far today, I woke up with the sore throat and cold I had so far avoided catching from my colleagues/husband/son, my toilet has overflowed - in the process ruining a bunch of clean diapers, I missed three separate buses by less than 30 seconds, I forgot the book I was going to work on today, and I got to campus just late enough due to the missed buses to miss out on all the good  free Thai leftovers for lunch.

On the plus side, I got confirmation that my article on Prostitutes as Mothers and Employers is being published in a book by U Texas Press in 2010, a friend got a great job, and I found out from one of my colleagues that my wacky totally unsourced theory about an inscription that I'm teaching tomorrow is totally correct, and he has the sources to back it up. Have I mentioned lately how  much I love having competent, interesting colleagues who like discussing their work with me? One of the most distressing things at my last job was that several of the t-t asst. profs had the attitude of "oh, my work is really arcane and not that interesting to non-specialists." I know I'm in the right place here because it's full of people who, like me, can't stop talking about how neat they find their research.

Also, a comforting exchange with Mac, as I saw the first bus go past us. "That bus going a different direction. Oh well, Mommy. Sometimes you have to wait for next bus." When your two-year-old has more patience and calm about a situation than you do, you know it's time to take a deep breath and get some perspective.

Tomorrow, it's Herodotus as Sam the Eagle/Obelix: "You Egyptians are all weirdos!"

A new article!! Awesome! Congratulations!

And I love Philosophical Mac :) Sometimes you have to wait for next bus, indeed. *hug* I hope that tomorrow's buses are better!

In many ways. :)

Toilet: are you aware that there is usually a knob behind the toilet that you can turn off before the water gets to the floor? Handy thing to know.

No...useful to know, though hopefully it won't happen again.

Then again, I suppose diapers are a pretty good toilet-water-soaker-upper.

Yeah, but at 35 cents or so a diaper, a pretty expensive one!

Gragh! So much bad stuff all at once! I'm sure tomorrow will be better. Call me if you want to vent tonight. :)

Thanks. I'm mostly going to hole up with BSG tonight, I think. :)

Congrats on the essay! Feel better soon.

Arg, sorry about everything! Gratz on the paper, though.

Sometimes you have to wait for the next bus. So true, Mac, so true.
