[livejournal.com profile] cerebralpaladin : "Your students make the Baby Founding Fathers cry!" - on my mentioning that in a debate between whether the ancient Persians should choose monarchy, democracy, or oligarchy (a la Herodotus), all three sections had soundly rejected democracy on the grounds that it required excellent education, fast communication, and a homogeneous population.

Um... I disagree with the "homogeneous population" thing (democracy is probably a pretty good way to manage heterogeneity-related issues peacefully), but I agree that democracy doesn't work very well when a large percentage of the electorate is pig-ignorant ("are low-information voters").
