Disturbing Things:

1. Watching Law & Order, and saying, "Oh, it's the New Jersey governor case! No, it's the CT governor case! No, it's both! (And gay marriage.) Is it so much to ask our elected officials to have a basic standard of financial honesty and not to harass people?

2. Looking at this picture of the battle in Fallujah, about halfway down the page under the heading "11 Dead Americans and Counting," and thinking, "Wow, those cardboard barricades look just like the ones we made for Marilyna!" And then thinking "And we grum went through them in about 30 seconds." Life should _not_ imitate art in this case.

3. Being kinda excited by a job that'd be perfect for me - in Canterbury, New Zealand.

4. Having a dream that I had mentally time-traveled back to late 19th century England with two guys to advance the cause of gay rights then so it would be better now but winding up catching tuberculosis and coughing up blood everywhere.

Good Things:

1. First actual positive sign from a job app - Miami of Ohio wants more info from me. Of course, they want "all your other ancient history syllabi," which means I have to go make some up, but...

2. Adam exists again and gets sleep! I, however, don't.

3. World of Warcraft is fun.

Christchurch is awesome! Come to New Zealand, yesss preciousss...

Seriously, though, Canterbury isn't a godforsaken hellhole. Obviously I don't know what your situational constraints are, but if it's perfect for you, why not apply?

I read an article about the Law and Order episode - the guy who wrote it is from CT, and actually intended it to be only about the Rowland scandal, and added the homosexuality angle just because he needed a plot twist. It was only after he had finished the script that the McGreevey thing came out. (Um. So to speak.) Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the actual episode - I'll keep an eye out for it on reruns, 'cause I'm curious to see it.

And as for New Zealand...well, I'd miss you lots and lots, but hey, excuses to visit New Zealand! :)

So, I can say from recent personal experience that it's very nice, but very far away.
