So, this is mostly in some ways for [livejournal.com profile] darkforge, but there may well be other folks who are interested in it. I don't know if anyone else saw the CNN article about this new children's bestselling book, _Treasure Trove_, but apparently the author planted a variety of clues in the book which lead to 12 hidden tokens buried with roughly equal spacing around the continental U.S., which can be exchanged for gems in the shape of the book's wild animal characters that have a total cumulative value of $1 million. So, for instance, there is a 6.36 carat blue sapphire that is the head of a spider.

Now admittedly, this is clearly a ploy to sell more books, but it doesn't seem to be a scam, insofar as they've interviewed, at least, the jewelers who made all of these items, and I thought, well, I don't have time for this, but I have all these friends who are really, really good at puzzles. So, anyways, yeah...good luck, and if you know more than I do about this thing, I'm curious.

You know, this is the kind of distraction that can help lift my spirits. I could go for an old-fashioned Treasure Hunt.
