Bads:
Still no job. I'm beginning to feel like I'm in the midst of one of those awful junior high crushes again. "So, he hasn't rejected me, but he hasn't asked me out either. Was the first date that bad? What did I do wrong? Is he trying to date that other girl? School gossip doesn't say he's dating anybody, but maybe they're just keeping it very quiet. But he told that other girl that he didn't want to date her a week ago, and he hasn't told me that, so maybe I still have a chance?"
Still no Wii.
Ongoing stress over wonderful babysitter who needs more hours to keep working for us, among other issues.
Tired.
Last night, the puppy took her doggie bed, which was her big Christmas present and which she loved, and tore it open and spread little bits of white cotton all over the entrance hall in a 10-foot radius. It's very sad. After much cleanup, she's now lying on the empty, flat cover, looking vaguely mournful. Anyone have any suggestions for chewing-proof doggie beds?
I think Mac might have dust mite allergies. I just hope he's not allergic to Eowyn.
Goods:
Someone wants me to contribute several articles to an scholarly encyclopedia of love and sex. I may not be employed, but I'm doing great at the scholarly reputation game.
Students are very excited about the Rome game. Quote from yesterday:
Me: "You should be aware that non-coast-hopping sea travel carries a 30% risk of the ship being shipwrecked."
Pompeian Faction: "Wait! We can't put Pompeius Magnus on a ship! What if he sinks? Our whole purpose is meaningless!"
I got a thank you and a promise of writing help for my confused student from the Athletics Dept, and he's staying in my class.
Wiis are being stockpiled at Tar-zhay for a sale Sunday morning. So if I get there by 8 AM Sunday morning, my chances are decent.
Friends are having success in their lives.
We're a third of the way through February!
Mac continues to be nigh-crawling. And very cute. He turns 6 months old next week.

What makes you think Mac might have allergies?

runny nose
Just a thought - we dropped some solids from SMNH's diet a month ago and saw noticeable positive effects. We think it might have been the peas. Apparently peas are a common allergen. Who knew??? (Not that he's necessarily allergic in the long run; just not agreeing with him right now.)

Re: runny nose
We're also thinking that dust blown by the heater is very likely, because A. was home today and started having the exact same symptoms, but only when the heater was on, and M.'s symptoms are worse when he's lying in his crib near the vent.
OTOH, M. did seem to have a brief immediate allergic reaction (little red bumps around his mouth, gone 10 minutes later) when he munched on a bit of mozzarella from my sandwich yesterday.
