This article about the importance of praising for effort rather than saying "you're smart" to children rings very true to me. In particular, I can't tell you how many smart people I know who get incredibly frustrated and stop trying when they can't get something easily through brute-force-intelligence, just as it describes in the article.

Still stomach fluey. But got my TA to come help proctor final exam tonight in case of disaster and wrote 8 email thankyous to Irvine; all that remains is to write the final, which will be pretty short.
